He stood on that hill and looked eastwards. He saw undulating hills of Kyaggwe County, valleys, green trees and grass, which he had not seen anywhere else in Africa and he declared, “This is really the Pearl of Africa.” Mukono is the main gateway to Uganda from the east African coast.

In 1890, Bishop Tucker of the Church Missionary Society (CMS) from England established the Christian Mission and a hospital on Mukono hill. He also established the Bishop Tucker Theological College, which is now the Uganda Christian University (UCU).

Our guides are trained to give you a comprehensive forest experience. We offer forest walks for any skill level, from a long and adventurous trek into the back country to a gentle meandering stroll through our well maintained trails. It’s difficult not to run into one of the 3 species of monkeys native to the forest on your 30 minute walk to Griffin Falls. You will also see rich populations of birds and butterflies and giant, ancient trees.
Mabira forest boasts of 315 species of birds including the rare ones like the Nahan’s francolin, Tit Hylia, Yellow and grey longbills, Purple-throated cuckoo shrikes, Illadopsises, Jameson’s wattle eyes. 46% of Uganda’s forest birds can easily be seen in Mabira than any other forest in Uganda.
Canopy Super Skyway
Experiencing the Mabira Forest canopy just makes you behave like monkeys! The first of its kind in Uganda. The Mabira Forest Canopy Super Skyway is a canopy “zip-line” system that sends you soaring between the tallest trees in the rainforest.
You are led to pass through ancient trees by experienced Sky Captains / Sky guides across a network of 5 zip-lines that stretches 250 metres across River Musamya. Using strict International safety standards with imported climbing gears and art high ropes from America, participants are belayed up the first tree, brought through the whole system and repelled on a 78m diagonal zip. High up in the canopy one is able to enjoy a view of the forest layers, mammals like grey cheeked mangabeys and red tailed monkeys, birds like palm nut vultures, African fish eagles, great blue turacos and the roaring griffin falls, making your zip a memorable day!
The hike back from the skyway takes you past the beautiful Griffin Falls. Zip-line activities are done from 8am in the morning to 1pm and from 2pm to 6pm daily
Set off to your evening adventure at Ssezibwa falls. Sezibwa means ‘it can’t be blocked’. It is a tourism and cultural site with a lot to see and do for nature lovers. It is 200 metres at the point where the water drops then it continues its flow and finally empties at Lake Kyoga.
With 135 bird species in the area, it a bird lover’s paradise for those who enjoy bird watching. The birds that can be seen include the Mourning Dove, African Harrier Hawk, African Pied Wagtail, Mouse birds and Sunbirds. You can also enjoy a forest walk which gives you the chance to learn about the many trees that can be seen in the surrounding area including their medicinal value. For the adventurous, climbing to the top of the falls and watching the water drop down from the bridge that has been constructed at the top is an activity you would not want to miss.
The spectacular waterfalls are believed to have been born by humans many hundred years ago. The falls are one of the most spiritual and cultural centers where many natives flock for blessings, wealth, and fortunes. A traditional healer performs ceremonies for those seeking love, children, a successful business deal or a good harvest. The Falls are on the Ssezibwa River which flows from the wetlands between L.Victoria and L. Kyoga.
En route expect to see beautiful tea and sugar plantations. After the activities, proceed with the journey to Kampala arriving late in the evening. This tour can be done any time of the year.
