Volunteer with Beacon of Hope Uganda

It’s a strong statement when people try to make a difference in poor places, such as Uganda. Ever get the feeling that you have a higher calling? Like to travel differently than with a big group of people or are you looking for changing yourself? Then Beacon of Hope Uganda –can provide you with an assortment of opportunities for finding some answers through Volunteer in Uganda Programs.

One of the biggest differences you will notice at the end will not be external but will be the difference inside of yourself. Most importantly, you will be changed forever because you will have a greater understanding of another culture, you will challenge your personal limits, and you will develop friendships.

Many travelers know where they want to go, but don’t know what to do once they get there. Volunteering in Uganda gives your travels a purpose and an itinerary.

In some cases you may find a volunteer gig in your field of study. A volunteer position may give you the hands-on experience you won’t get stuffing envelopes for an internship.

Volunteering requires flexibility, patience; those who are self-starters, and people who genuinely respect the host people and their culture. Volunteers never come here to teach the people western ways, nor are here to save the people. Volunteers come to share their energy and time with the people, to experience their culture first hand and to grow themselves.

You may learn a new language, a new culture, and a new way of life. Flexibility and patience are the keys to having a satisfying experience.

The most important step will be to find the right volunteer project.

Volunteer Experiences at Beacon of Hope Uganda fall into some of the following main Arenas:

Community Development – placements might be building a school, setting up a water treatment facility, cleaning the streets or planting trees.

Education – teacher placement or acting as a teaching assistant in a local school or an adult education program.

Social Welfare – working with under-privileged children, working with a women’s co-op, or working in a hospital or orphanage.

The vision of Beacon of Hope Uganda- Volunteer in Uganda program is a community of Ugandans and Westerners working, sharing and connecting with each other using their gifts to serve others. I will admit it, I cried myself to sleep the first night. But don’t worry, I cried myself the last night for the opposite reason. Treat the people you meet here as family and they will do the same. I will miss Uganda and all my friends here so much. I am going to miss Rolexes (omelette wrapped in chappati with cabbage, tomatoes and onions), hopping on the back of a bodaboda (motorcycle taxi), the African time, the music, the dance, the “muzungu how are you?” from children, the avocadoes, pineapple, sweet bananas, using rain as an excuse to relax or coming late, having Isaac on my side as my bodyguard in nightclubs.
I am excited to return to a world where pedestrians have the right of way, but transitioning into the life at home will be strange. Thank you Isaac and the team for making my stay in Uganda meaningful

I really enjoyed my volunteering Project in Uganda. Beacon of Hope was everything I was looking for! Everything went well, the hope centre project and the school is well organized. There are about 3 Isaacs at the centre and all the teachers I worked with were very kind and caring. I was able to get to know the Ugandan culture very well.

The accommodation at the volunteer house in Mukono town was also comfortable and all meals well prepared, very tasty. 3 weeks was very short, every day at the hope centre was a new day for me, enjoyable and purposeful.

My experience in Uganda ranks as one of my all time greatest. I struggled at first to keep up with the daily tasks and the conditions but after just a few days I loved everything. Everyone there never stopped smiling and laughing, no matter the day or how they felt. It was inspiring.

Thank you BoHU team and see you soon!
